“It’s not stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it.” ~Hans Selye
Stress has a dramatic impact on health. It amplifies anxiety and depression, hurts your ability to focus, interrupts sleep, causes digestive issues, and has been connected to medical problems ranging from infertility to heart disease to cancer.
Learning to manage your stress, whether the stress is physical or, well, life, is the best way to find your optimal health. The Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) Program is a research-based, 8 week program developed by the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at Mass General Hospital that has been demonstrated to reduce physical symptoms and improve health and well-being. It is stress boot camp, and it will change your relationship with stress.
You will learn:
- Exactly how stress changes the body and your health
- How to recognize your response to stress
- Techniques to elicit the Relaxation Response
- How to change thought patterns and emotional outlook
- Techniques to improve eating, sleeping and physical activity
We will meet for 2 hours every week from September 13-November 8th. Weekly meetings provide instruction, activities, and encouragement for making lasting changes. Our course manual deepens understanding of the material, provides accountability and supports your learning style.
